Ministry : Bereavement Ministry

The purpose of this ministry is to support Parish families who have lost a loved one. We do this by providing assistance with the following: home visits, funeral liturgy planning, prayer line, encouragement and companionship, as well as community education.

The "Living in Hope" Bereavement Ministry is founded on the principles of the Catholic faith and influenced by the writings of Henry Nouwen in The Wounded Healer.

Funeral luncheon support is also available. Please contact the Parish office if you are in need of assistance in this area.

Prayer Ministry for the Bereaved

Once our team is notified of a deceased Parish member we organize immediate prayer for the family and individual. Our prayer support includes:
  • Praying of the Rosary in honor of the deceased
  • A Holy hour of adoration for the deceased and the family each month
  • We extend a prayer line through other members of our Parish who have committed themselves to supporting our Parish family through their prayers

To become a member of our Prayer Ministry for the Bereaved, please contact Robyn Magyar.

Funeral Liturgy Planning

Our team will assist in the scripture selection and organization of the funeral liturgy and coordinate with the Parish priests to aid the families in celebrating the life of their deceased loved one.

Home Visits

Members of our team visit families and share emotional support and a faith resource packet to aid in the grief process. To schedule a home visit, please contact the Parish office or Robyn Magyar.

Mission Statement

We will say "Yes" to God as we serve our Parish community. We will wholeheartedly respond to the call of the Catholic Church to minister to the bereaved. We will dedicate ourselves to assisting with the Liturgical preparation so as to deepen our faith and the faith of those who we will serve. We will strive to support and comfort our bothers and sisters as they go through the grief process.

Community Education

Our ministry coordinates special speaker events for the Parish that focus on topics relating to Bereavement and loss. These topics include:
  • Adult Orphans - loss of a parent
  • Masculine Grief
  • Coping with the holidays
  • Grief and Forgiveness
  • What is Grief - signs and symptoms

Watch the Parish weekly bulletin and monthly calendar for the dates and times of these special events
