Bereavement Luncheons

The Bereavement Luncheon Ministry offers an opportunity for family and friends to share a meal and gather together following the funeral of a loved one. The meals are offered at no cost to anyone who has experienced the loss of a family member. (Some people do make a donation to the church in thanksgiving.) The parish provides chicken and grape salad croissant sandwiches, beverages, and all paper products for the luncheon. Volunteers in our ministry provide side items such as: salads, chips, fruit and vegetable platters, and desserts.

Rewards of Serving in this Ministry

The families that we serve are always very grateful and appreciative for having the chance to spend time with family and friends and not have the added burden of having to provide a meal for them. Those of us who are involved have the feeling of knowing that we have helped a neighbor in their time of distress.

Volunteers are needed to help to organize and carry out the lunches. There is usually a short period of time to prepare for the luncheon, generally 1 to 2 days. Once the menu and number of people to prepare for has been determined, callers will call volunteers to contribute a food dish. Other volunteers help to set up the parish hall on the morning of the luncheon. This includes putting tablecloths on the tables, placing small bud vases of silk flowers on the tables, and setting out the food buffet style. Volunteers also help to clean up.
