Catholic Mutual Group Connect Safe Environment Program

Thank you for your interest in St. Thomas Aquinas ministries. We are happy to have you become an active volunteer of our faith community! St. Thomas Aquinas is committed to providing a safe environment for all members of our faith community, especially children and vulnerable adults. As of February 14, 2024 In accordance with the Diocese of Charlotte requirements, all parish volunteers must register through Catholic Mutual Group Connect (CMG Connect) for a background check and their subsequent once a year training videos.

  • NEW VOLUNTEERS: Registration begins on the CMG website: www.charlotte.cmgconnect.org.
  • CURRENT VOLUNTEERS:  All previous Virtus users have been automatically migrated to the new system. Please log in using the e-mail address you used for your Virtus account. You may need to reset your password.  Please e-mail Monica at volunteers@stacharlotte.com if you have any issues.

All background checks are submitted electronically.

As part of our regular practice at St. Thomas Aquinas, we audit the Safe Environment compliance files frequently. Thank you for your patience as we update our records. Active volunteers only need to submit this background check one time and it will automatically renew every 6 years. This is done in compliance with Our Pastor, Our Bishop, and the USCCB's requirements.

Protecting God's Children workshops are no longer required in this new Safe Environment program. Active volunteers will be asked to watch a series of videos once a year to remain compliant.

As you register with CMG, please note that unless you are on a payroll at the church, you will mark yourself as a volunteer (with children/vulnerable adults) or a volunteer (no contact with children/vulnerable adults). Educators are reserved for MACS employees and not Religious Education Catechists.

If you drive a vehicle as a representative of the parish, we also ask that you take the necessary training videos to be a certified driver for the parish. This includes adults who chaperone trips with Youth Ministry and those who visit the sick and homebound.

If you were registered with Virtus and have yet to complete your new required training with CMG, please check your e-mail that you had registered with Virtus for instruction on how to access your new account on CMG, as the Safe Environment Office automatically migrated Active Users from Virtus to CMG!

Please visit the diocesan website at www.charlottediocese.org for additional information about the CMG Connect Program.

Please e-mail Monica at volunteers@stachalotte.com  if you have a CMG account in another parish and wish to add ours to your profile!

Again, thank you for your interest in St. Thomas Aquinas Ministries and for helping to ensure than our parish is a safe environment for the children and vulnerable adults of our faith community.
