Deacon James Witulski of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church is both the Coordinator Of Catholic Prison Ministry for the Diocese of Charlotte and the Liaison of Catholic Jail Ministry for Mecklenburg County.
As Coordinator Of Catholic Prison Ministry for the Diocese of Charlotte, Deacon Witulski is responsible for creating new parish-based prison ministry volunteer teams and also supporting existing parish-based prison ministry teams throughout the Diocese of Charlotte. Additionally Deacon Witulski and his volunteers are in the process of resurrecting the weekend Catholic Retreat at prisons throughout our diocese. More information is on the Prison Ministry Website.
As Liaison of Catholic Jail Ministry for Mecklenburg County, Deacon Witulski leads volunteers who facilitate Catholic based classes at Jail Central which is located in Uptown Charlotte. The classes are open to inmates of all faiths. The classes consist of prayer, sharing and video. A volunteer can serve one evening a month or more often. Each class has two volunteer leaders. Deacon Witulski will provide training.
The Prison/Jail Ministry Volunteer has the opportunity to see the "Face of Jesus" in those they meet and can therefore give a sense of dignity and hope and spiritual insight to those in need. The important thing to remember is that the volunteer has the opportunity to perform the Work of Mercy; "to visit the imprisoned."
If you are a faithful and practicing Catholic male or female and have an interest in Prison/Jail Ministry, you are invited to contact
Deacon James Witulski via email at or via phone at 704.960.3704 for more information.
